Before I found the best email writing AI tool...

I read, wrote & replied to about 50-80 emails daily.

My fingers went numb by the end of the day.

And, I noticed I'm spending half of my working hours on emails.

But, I'm not the only one with this problem.

(at least, I hope not)

Everyday,

  • I reply to colleagues.

  • Schedule meetings.

  • Forward emails from clients.

  • Write to my team lead.

I also spend a lot of time editing and rewriting these emails to sound OK.

I always wondered if there was a solution.

A solution to reply faster.

Write better.

And above all, reduce the time I spend writing emails.

That's when I found an AI tool to write emails.

Right away, I was impressed.

It wrote Better than I expected. Faster than I imagined. And it was Free...

Now, I was hooked.

Before you jump into an AI email writer, I have created a directory that has the entire AI tools list in all categories.

Check it out. It's mindblowing.

Features to look for in an email writing AI free tool:

  • Integration with your email service provider - Only some email writer AI free tools have this feature. This is important so that you don't go to a different website to write, everytime you need to send an email.

  • Writing style & tone selector - The option to select the tone is crucial. Otherwise, you'll risk sounding rude or arrogant in your email.

  • Multi-lingual support - Must-have for newsletters & email marketing campaigns. Why? Because now you can target non-English speakers to sell products & services.

  • Catchy Subject line writer - This is not a feature. It's more of a trial-and-error decision. You must try out multiple email writing AI tools to find which gives you the best subject line.

  • Regenerate content - What if you aren't happy with the email written by AI? Well, some tools give you the option to regenerate the text. You can regenerate again & again till you're happy.

All of this is fine. Just tell me this...

Which free AI email writer should I use?

17+ best email writer AI free tools available today.

Ranking tier list of all available professional email writer online free tools from excellent to poor & terrible based on performance & ease of using the tools.

It comes with a straightforward UI.

It understood my prompt. And the output was on point.

Mailmodo exceeded my expectations for a free email-writing AI. When I requested a cold outreach email, it surprised me by incorporating social proof—which is known to boost conversion rates significantly.

But it did something I didn't expect a free email writing AI would do.

Since I asked for a cold outreach email, it added social proof in the email copy.

I was amazed.

Because social proof has a huge impact on conversion rate.

Key features

Cons

  • Generates 5 email options at once

  • A predefined set of 7 audience types & 12 email types

  • Extra control over word count & paragraph limit

  • No signup required

  • Only 4 writing tones

  • No multi-lingual feature

Mailmodo's AI email writer added social proof in my email copy. I didn't mention it in my prompt. But it was in the email copy becasue I asked for a cold outreach email. I'm amazed.

This is hands down the best AI tool for email writing.

Best in terms of "output".

It understood my prompt on a microscopic level.

And delivered an awesome output.

The output sounds genuine. And comes with different suggestions for each situation.

Awesome right?

But, the UI/UX is from the 80s.

Font choice is bad. And colour contrast strains the eye.

Undoubtedly the best AI tool for email writing, delivering top-notch, genuine outputs tailored to each situation with a deep understanding of prompts. However, the outdated UI/UX, poor font choice, and eye-straining color contrast detract from the overall experience.

Key features:

  • Option to select from multiple AI models

  • 14 tones

  • 3 urgency levels

  • It's the best human-like writing

Cons:

  • Bad design

  • Hard to read the output

  • It strains the eye

I am awestruck by the output. The quality of writing is at is best. Toolbaz AI is handsdown the no. 1 free AI email writer. But the UI/UX needs to change.

Since this is a popular AI writer, I gave a difficult prompt.

(at least "I" thought it was difficult)

The prompt was to write a newsletter with the topic "Productivity Tips"

And the tone was set to "Humorous"

The result? Mindblowing!

It used "breaking the 4th wall" humor technique in my newsletter.

The AI understood my prompt & my intent for the newsletter well.

Rytr nailed a 'Productivity Tips' newsletter with a humorous tone, using clever 4th wall humor!

Key features:

  • Write in 32 languages

  • 22 tone options

  • Generates up to 3 variants

  • 5 levels of creativity

  • Separate AI generator for email, email reply & newsletter

Cons:

  • No email type selector

Rytr used "Breaking the 4th wall" technique, when I asked it to write a humorous newsletter. I was mindblown by the AI output.

No matter how good your email is.

If no one opens it, no one reads it.

Subject lines affect open rates.

Ortto's AI tool scores your subject line.

It shows the probable open rate based on your subject line.

The AI suggestion feature also gives you the best alternative subject lines.

Ortto's free AI tool helps improve email open rates by scoring your subject line. It predicts the likely open rate based on your subject and suggests better alternatives to enhance performance.

Key features:

  • Get a score for your email subject line

  • Multiple subject line suggestions

Cons:

  • You need to sign in every time you use the tool

Good at suggesting subject lines with high open rates. But it's annoying to sign in every time I use this tool.

The 2nd best email writer in this list.

It sounds like a human.

Comes up with catchy subject lines.

My favorite thing, it keeps the email crisp.

But it's a prompt-only tool.

I.e you have to mention everything in the prompt like tone, purpose, word limit, etc.

ChatGPT's AI email writer ranks second on the list. It delivers human-like, concise emails with catchy subject lines. However, it's prompt-only, requiring detailed input for tone, purpose, word limit, and more.

Key features:

  • Human-like writing

  • Creative output

Cons:

  • No language selector

  • No tone selector

  • No word limit control

This is an add-on for Gmail.

Unlike most AI email writers, this one works inside Gmail.

Delivers a decent output.

Has useful features like translating an email, improving existing body text etc.

But it doesn't write the subject line like other tools.

GPT for Gmail's AI email assistant is an add-on that works directly inside Gmail. It provides decent outputs, offers features like email translation and text improvement, but lacks the ability to generate subject lines.

Key features:

  • Email translater

  • Improve writing option

  • Write in 39 languages

  • Works inside Gmail

Cons:

  • No word limit control

  • Limited tone options

Similar to the previous one Hiwriter is also a Gmail add-on.

The output is crisp.

Short sentences.

No chunky paragraphs.

And also writes like a human.

I have no bone to pick with this AI email-writer tool.

Hiwriter GPT for Gmail, like its counterpart, is a Gmail add-on. It delivers crisp, human-like outputs with short sentences and no bulky paragraphs—an efficient and reliable AI email writer.

Key features:

  • Human-like writing

  • Works inside Gmail

  • 39 languages

  • 17 styles & tone options

Google's own AI email writer works on mobile as well.

Now this is groundbreaking.

I mean, you can access AI on your mobile phone.

It is impossible with other free AI email writers.

But there's a catch.

Since this is still in beta, this feature is not available to everyone.

Hopefully, it will be available to everyone, soon.

Fingers crossed.

This one has a specific use case i.e "Marketing emails".

It is best at:

  • cold outreach,

  • lead nurturing emails,

  • top-of-the-funnel or

  • bottom-of-the-funnel emails,

  • abandoned cart emails,

... and the list goes on.

For anything related to marketing emails, Copy AI is the go-to option.

Copy AI tool specializes in marketing emails, excelling at cold outreach, lead nurturing, top- and bottom-of-the-funnel emails, abandoned cart emails, and more. For anything marketing-related, Copy AI is the top choice.

Key features:

  • Writes catchy subject lines

  • Best for all marketing-related emails

Cons:

  • No multilingual support

  • No tone selector

  • No word limit

Everyone knows Grammarly.

But, its free AI email generator is secret only known to a few.

It's a simple prompt-only tool.

Unlike other email writers, there are no input fields for tone, word limit, or language options.

So you should mention everything in the prompt box.

The output is good.

As expected.

Grammarly's free AI email generator is a lesser-known tool. It's prompt-only, with no options for tone, word limit, or language—everything must be specified in the prompt. The output is simple and reliable, as expected.

Key features:

  • Human-like writing

Cons:

  • No multilingual support

  • No tone selector

  • No word limit

It does the job well.

I asked to write an internal email to a team member for a report submission.

The output was on point.

The email was polite. Gave me space to add a deadline. And was appreciative of the receiver.

Which is exactly what I was looking for in an internal email.

AI-Mailer wrote a polite, appreciative internal email with space for a deadline—perfect for my office emailing needs.

Key features:

  • Write in 15 languages

  • 14 tone options

  • No signup needed

Cons:

  • One output at a time

  • No email type selector

AI-mailer does the job well in one try. The AI is intutive & courteous at the same time.

This is the best browser-based productivity tool.

You needn't click on anything to access this tool.

It has a quick command function that brings up the AI tool inside Gmail.

Now, write the prompt and hit enter.

That's it.

You've just written an awesome email in under a minute.

Also, below every email you get, there's an instant reply feature.

How cool is that?

The Compose AI Chrome extension is a top browser-based productivity tool. It integrates seamlessly with Gmail, allowing quick access via commands to draft impressive emails in under a minute. It also offers an instant reply feature below every email—convenient and efficient!

Key features:

  • Works inside Gmail

  • Instant reply feature

  • Quick command function

Cons:

  • Prompt only tool

  • No language selector

  • No tone selector

  • No word limit control

This free AI email writing tool is a little confusing.

It has multiple input fields for writing the prompt.

One is "Email Topic" & the other is the "Details" input field.

Both "Formal" & "Casual" tone options are found in the "Writing Style" input field.

Whereas, there's a separate input field for "Tone"

Also, the output is repetitive.

It repeats the same content in all three paragraphs.

Confusing AI email tool with redundant inputs, unclear tone settings, and repetitive outputs.

Key features:

  • Generates multiple emails at once

  • Has a whopping 25 tones & 24 email types

  • Comes with a separate "Subject line generator"

  • No need to sign in

Cons:

  • No multi-lingual feature

  • Confusing Input fields

  • Output is below par

Yamm's free AI tool for email writing is confusing to use. Also, the output is repetative & long.

Need your Email in HTML format?

It's the only free online AI email writer on this list to do that.

The output is decent.

But it writes huge paragraphs.

And lengthy sentences.

Which is a big no-no for human-like writing.

Only free AI email writer with HTML output, but it uses long paragraphs and sentences—less human-like writing.

Key features:

  • Has both compose & reply to email feature

  • Control over word limit

  • 16 tones & 38 languages

  • HTML format email generation

Cons:

  • Long sentences & big paragraphs

  • Robot like writing

Writes like a robot with long sentences & chunky paragraphs. This makes it difficult to read.

This one gave me a similar output to the Tools Day email generator.

I mean it has the same problems.

It sounds robotic. Long sentences. Huge paragraphs.

On top of that, it's filled with intrusive ads.

I'm ok with ads.

But the ads are getting in the way of using the tool.

It can be annoying if you are using this tool regularly.

Similar to Tools Day AI email writer tool, this one also delivers a robotic tone, long text, and intrusive ads disrupting regular use

Key features:

  • 20 tones & 26 languages

  • No need to login

  • 10 levels of creativity

Cons:

  • Intrusive ads

  • Robotic output

AI Free Box's email writer is filled with intrusive ads. Making it difficult to use on a daily basis. The output is also robotic.

This is a proof that AI can make mistakes.

And it's hilarious.

The prompt box mentioned "Sender name" as optional.

So, I left it blank.

This AI email drafting tool mentions the "Sender" field as optional. But when left blank it doesn't work.

In the email output, the AI wrote "My name is Sender, ..."

Imagine you sent this to everyone on your mailing list.

How embarrassing would that be?

Sometimes when you search for Professional email writer online free tools you should be aware that AI tools can make mistakes that would be embarrassing to send. This screenshot is proof for that.

Key features:

  • Both compose & reply to email feature

  • 17 tones & 39 languages

  • 3 levels of email length

Cons:

  • Makes awkward mistakes

  • Robotic output

It ignored my word limit.

I want my emails to be short.

So I always set the word limit to 100.

I did the same here with LogicBalls email writer AI.

But, it didn't work.

Instead of 100 words, it wrote the email in 200 words.

This is frustrating.

Simply counter-productive.

LogicBalls' Email writer AI free online tool ignored the 100-word limit I set, resulting in a 200-word email. This was frustrating and counterproductive, as I wanted to keep my emails short.

Key features:

  • 100+ languages

  • 14 tone options

Cons:

  • Word limit input doesn't work

Just like Logic Balls AI writer, this one also ignored the word limit.

The output was lengthy.

But apart from that, I like the content it gave me.

This one is a decent AI writer.

Hiver's AI email writer, similar to Logic Balls, ignored the word limit, resulting in lengthy outputs. However, the content quality was good, making it a decent AI writing tool.

Key features:

  • Both compose & reply function

Cons:

  • Ignores word limit

  • No multilingual support

  • Only 3 writing tones

Why do you need an AI tool for email writing?

Free up your time for important work.

In other words, "improved productivity".

All email writer AI tools (both free & paid) serve one common purpose.

I.e freeing up your time writing emails.

With any email AI writer, your job boils down to 2 steps:

  1. Write a prompt

  2. Click "Generate email"

That's it.

AI email writing tools enhance productivity by automating the process, allowing you to craft personalized, error-free, and tone-appropriate emails in just two steps. They help avoid embarrassment, ensure polite communication, generate catchy subject lines, and simplify A/B testing for marketers.

Write personalized emails for everyone.

I write emails to multiple people.

Colleagues, clients, service providers, potential customers, & the list goes on.

An email writing AI corrects the tone of the email according to the receiver.

And the best part is you can also set the "Writing Tone".

Some of the common writing tone options are:

  • Formal

  • Casual

  • Convincing

  • Urgent

Saves you from embarrassment.

I'm always in a hurry.

So, I make spelling mistakes, grammar errors, & other proofreading blunders.

And almost always, I catch them only after hitting "send".

Ughh...

How embarrassing?

even a kid could write better.

This will not happen if you're using AI tools for email writing.

You always get error-free text.

And you can click "Send" blindly.

Never sound "rude, arrogant, or careless" even by accident.

The hardest part for me is saying "No".

How do I say no to this project?

I have a lot on my plate now, & I don't wanna sound arrogant while declining this work.

So, most of the time I say "Yes".

Why?

Because I don't wanna sound rude.

Now, I outsource this task to my professional email writer AI tool.

My prompt would be...

Craft a polite email, to Amy saying I can't take up her project since I have a lot on my plate now.

It does the job every time.

Write cool subject lines without moving a muscle.

This one is perfect for cold emails, email marketing campaigns & newsletters.

Because subject lines impact email open rates.

When you ask AI to write emails, it gives subject lines based on the content.

It writes an "On-point" subject line, that is both catchy & simple.

Isn't that the purpose of subject lines?

If I don't like the subject line.

(which doesn't happen that often)

I regenerate the subject line or ask ChatGPT to write one.

Write multiple emails for A/B testing with ease.

Ok, this is not for everyone.

But if you are a marketer you'll get this one.

Marketers or growth hackers like me, love to do A/B testing with everything.

But it takes double the time to craft 2 emails.

Artificial intelligence email writing can help with A/B testing.

You can ask AI to write multiple:

  • Subject lines

  • Call to actions

  • Body text (with different copy)

  • Body text (with different tones)

And see what works best for you.

Best ways to use email writing AI tools (use case):

  1. Customer support emails

I hate the thought of writing to customer support.

Why?

Because it takes forever to get a reply.

That needn't be the case anymore.

Using AI to write customer support emails will shorten the response time.

And that'll be a deal breaker, for your recurring customers.

  1. Email marketing campaigns

You can now send marketing campaign emails to everyone.

By everyone, I mean "non-English" speakers.

Dutch. French. Hindi. Mandarin.

You name it.

AI email writers can write emails in any language you want.

Just write a prompt. Select a language. Click "Generate email".

And boom.

You've now written an awesome email to sell your product to Chinese customers.

  1. Internal office emails

Office emails need to be clear. To the point. And formal.

Its purpose is to communicate changes, delegate tasks, schedule meetings, & more.

AI can do these in a jiffy.

All AI email writers can be asked to:

  1. Write minutes of the meeting

  2. Ask for updates on a project

  3. Draft meeting invitations

  4. Summarise client requests & delegate

  5. Create instructions for your team.

  1. Cold outreach emails

Wanna know how I did cold outreach in the past?

I wrote one email and sent it to everyone on my mailing list.

This is the worst way to do cold outreach.

Don't do this.

AI email writing tools can write cold outreach emails that are catchy & personalized.

You can craft attractive proposals for different industries.

Write polite follow-up emails.

And get them to give a "thumbs up" for a meeting.

  1. Newsletters from your brand.

If you have a pretty good mailing list, you'd send at least one lengthy newsletter every week.

You can use AI to repurpose existing content.

Or you can ask it to write the outline for you.

Or you might want it to write the entire newsletter for you.

I'd suggest not generating an entire newsletter.

It'll Skyrocket your Unsubscribe rate.

Unless... that's what you wanna do.

  1. Personal emails

I don't use AI for personal emails.

It's just a personal choice.

Pun intended.

Wink. Wink.

Personal emails usually involve emotions.

Almost all email drafting AI tools didn't meet my expectations.

Maybe AI will get better at writing personal emails in the future.

Fingers crossed.

Don't use a free AI email writer before you read this:

  • AI prompts - All your prompts should mention the purpose of the email, tone of writing, who are the audience, & email format (newsletter, outreach, etc).

  • Mistakes by AI - Even the best AI tools for email writing can make mistakes. Always read the output & correct the mistakes.

  • AI as a starting point - Especially for marketing campaigns & newsletters, only use AI writers to get an outline. You'll hurt your brand reputation if you send an AI-written email to customers or subscribers.

  • Brand tone - Try different writing tones and styles for your email. Keep experimenting until you find the right fit for your brand.

  • Email attachments - AI is only for composing the body text for your emails. If you need to attach any documents, images, or links don't forget them.

7 Deliverability Tips for Emails Written by AI Tools

  • Verify Email ID - Make sure users give you the right email ID. Set up an automated "Thank you email" on sign-up. Ask subscribers to verify their email ID from the thank you email in their inbox.

  • Bulk email validation - Use an email validation tool to validate your mailing list. Remove the ones that can't be validated from the mailing list. Or else, your emails will land in the spam folder.

  • Use an email deliverability tester - Once AI writes your email, send it to a deliverability testing email ID. It will give you a spam score and suggestions to improve it.

  • Compress images - Emails with heavy images have low deliverability compared to emails with compressed images or no images at all.

  • Negative keywords in AI prompt - List keywords that hurt email deliverability. Prompt AI to never mention these keywords while crafting your email.

  • Use human names in Sender ID - People are more likely to open an email from a person compared to a brand name. Otherwise, you'll likely end up in the "Promotions" folder.

  • Encourage conversations - The purpose of emails is to have conversations. Encourage your users to reply to your emails. It helps you land on the "Inbox" folder.
